JEE Main 13th April 2023 (Shift 1 & 2) Question Paper Analysis

Day 6 of JEE Main 2023 Session 2 was conducted today. As per the NTA guidelines, the first shift was concluded at 12:00 pm and the second at 6:00 pm.

Thousands of BE/BTech aspirants appeared for the exam. The desire to get admission into the esteemed Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs) was reflected in their zeal for the JEE exam.

Students must be mindful of the paper pattern. They need to answer 90 questions in the paper. According to the marking scheme, every correct answer will help them score 4 marks, while an incorrect answer would lead to the deduction of 1 mark. No marks will be deducted for unanswered questions.

1st Shift, 13th April 2023: Major Highlights

JEE candidates who appeared for the 13th April Shift 1 exam summarised the question paper as follows:

  • The question paper was moderately difficult, similar to the previous sections.
  • Maths was the toughest, and Physics was the easiest of the three.
  • The class 12 syllabus was more in focus for this shift.
  • Several questions in Maths were from JEE-specific topics.
  • Students felt the paper was well-balanced.

Key points

Questions were asked from all chapters. Some JEE-specific topics were more in focus.

The questions were mostly straightforward, but the calculations were tricky.

Mixed concept questions were given from Circle, Parabola, Hyperbola, and Ellipse.

The calculations in the Numerical Section were lengthy.

The paper focused on the following topics:

The paper was time-consuming and tricky.

The NAT section had questions from Physical Chemistry.

Organic Chemistry enjoyed more weightage. Inorganic Chemistry was more in focus than Physical Chemistry.

Organic chemistry had mixed-concept questions from Aryl & Alkyl halides, Aldehydes & Ketones, Amines, and Polymers.

Numerical-based questions were given from Solutions, Chemical Kinetics, Thermodynamics, and Ionic Equilibrium.

Overall: All three sections mainly focused on the class 12 syllabus. There were tricky questions for all three subjects. Students felt the paper was slightly more difficult than the January Session.

2nd shift, 13th April 2023: Major Highlights

  • The paper was moderately difficult.
  • It contained several NCERT-based questions.
  • Students reported the Mathematics section to be lengthy.
  • The Physics section was found the easiest of all by a majority of candidates.
  • Chemistry had several theoretical questions.
