JEE Main Session 2 Results Declared: How To Interpret The Scores and Continue Ahead!

Joint Entrance Examination, or JEE is a national entrance exam for undergraduate engineering (BE/BTech), architecture (BArch), and planning (BPlanning) programs. Candidates who clear the JEE Main are eligible to proceed with the admissions process and receive counselling.

The results of the JEE Mains 2024 session 2 were released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday, 25th April 2024. In addition to acting as a qualifying test for JEE Advanced, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) is a crucial entry point for admission into Indian engineering institutes. JEE Main was held in two rounds this year, in January and April. The best score is taken into consideration in the preparation of the final merit list.

No of the Students Registered

  • 924,636 common candidates registered for the January and April sessions of the JEE Main 2024 exam, and 822,899 of them showed up for both sessions.
  • 1,221,624 students signed up for session 1 in January 2024, and 1,170,048 of them showed up.
  • Session 2 in April 2024 saw 1,179,569 registrations and 1,067,959 appearances.
  • 377,921 general candidates, 134,465 general EWS, 416,440 OBC-NCL, 103,422 SC, and 35,711 ST candidates were among those who showed up for session 2.

JEE Main Results

8.2 lakh students took the exam, and the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the JEE Mains 2024 results for session 2 on Thursday. According to the JEE Mains 2024 results, 56 individuals achieved a score of 100 percentile. Of the participants in the January session, twenty-three had attained the 100 percentile.

With seven pupils reaching this milestone, Telangana leads the field. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan, each with three holders of the 100 percentile, are next. Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Karnataka each had one student who achieved perfect scores, while Delhi and Haryana each had two students at the 100 percentile threshold.

Eleven students from Telangana achieved a perfect score in 2023. This year, the number has risen to 15. Next are Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, with 7 and 5 hundred percentile pupils, respectively, compared to 2 and 5 in 2023.

JEE Main 2024 Evaluation

The JEE Main 2024 exam was administered over a number of days and sessions, with variable exam difficulty levels from day to day and session to session. Thus, the exam administering body implemented the percentile system based on the normalisation procedure to assure equality in evaluating each test-taker's performance.

The main metrics for JEE Main evaluation are discussed as follows:

Raw Score:

The total number of marks you received after taking into account correctly answered, incorrectly answered, and unattempted questions is your raw score.

Percentile:

This measure shows the proportion of applicants who performed lower than you. A 90th percentile result, for instance, indicates that you fared better than 90% of test takers. When applying to NITs, IIITs, and other engineering institutes, applicants must meet certain requirements, including percentile scores.

Rank

Your ranking tells where you stand in relation to other applicants. The top scorer receives Rank 1, and ranks are based on the percentile score. NTA employs a particular technique to break ties in percentile scores, taking scores in chemistry, physics, and maths in order of preference.

Normalisation

This involves comparing the test results of applicants who took the exam during different shifts. Other national-level exams like the CAT also follow the norm of normalisation.

JEE Main CutOffs

The JEE Main 2024 Cutoff has been raised by 2.45%. The general candidate cutoff for JEE Advanced 2024 is 93.23, up from 90.77 in JEE Main 2023.

For General Category: 93.2362181

For EWS Category: 81.3266412

For OBC Category: 79.6757881

For SC Category: 60.0923182

For ST Category: 46.697584

The cutoff for SC candidates is 60.09, a significant increase from 51.97 in 2023 compared to 43.08 in 2022, 46.8 in 2021, 50.1 in 2020, and 54.01 in 2019. In 2023, the cut-off score for ST students was 37.23; in 2022, it was 26.7; and in 2021, it was 34.6. In 2020 and 2019, the qualifying scores were higher at 39.06 and 44.3, respectively.

In comparison to 67 in 2022, 68.02 in 2021, and 72.8 in 2020, the OBC (non-creamy layer) cut-off has also climbed, rising to 79.67 this time from 73.61 in 2023. This year's cutoff time for candidates in the EWS category is 75.62, as opposed to 63.11 the previous year.

Why Is The Percentile Score Different From The Main Percentage In JEE?

Many students misunderstand the difference between the JEE Main 2024 % and percentile and assume they are the same. However, they are two very distinct things. While the percentile is determined using relative marking, the JEE Main percentage is the outcome of absolute marking.

JEE Main Percentage= (100 x Marks obtained by candidate) / Total marks

JEE Main Percentile = (100 x Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks less than that obtained by the candidate) / Total number of candidates who appeared in that session.
