JEE Main 8th April 2023 (Shift 1 & 2) Question Paper Analysis

Day 2 of JEE Main 2023 Session 2 exam was conducted today - 8th April 2023. Candidates aspiring to pursue BE/BTech took this exam. The first shift began at 9:00 am and concluded at 12:00 pm, while the second shift took place between 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

As per the NTA guidelines, question papers consisted of 90 questions each for both shifts. According to the marking scheme, candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each correct answer. However, there will be a deduction of 1 mark for every incorrect answer due to negative marking. No marks will be deducted for unanswered questions.

The official JEE Main 2023 Session 2 Answer Key will be released after the exam ends.

1st Shift, 8th April 2023: Major Highlights

JEE candidates who appeared for the 8th April Shift 1 exam summarised the question paper as follows:

  • Overall, the paper was moderately difficult.
  • The Chemistry and Physics sections were easier compared to the Maths section.
  • A large number of questions were posed from the NCERT textbook.

Key points

A few questions from the MCQ section were tricky.

Questions were posed from all chapters. However, the following chapters were in focus: 

Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry questions were mostly from NCERT books.

Physical Chemistry had lesser weightage in the numerical section.

The questions were quite easy in the numerical section.

Overall: The students felt this paper was balanced and easy. All three subjects almost equally covered the syllabi of classes XI and XII.

2nd shift, 8th April 2023: Major Highlights

  • Overall, the paper was moderately difficult
  • While Chemistry focused largely on class 12th syllabus, Physics had an even distribution.
  • The Maths section was the most time-consuming of all.

Several questions were formula-based and made the paper easier.

In Physics, questions from the Class 11th and Class 12th syllabi were evenly distributed.

Overall: Maths was lengthy and tricky. Although the paper was well-balanced, students found a few numerical questions difficult.
