When Fe rod is kept in AgNO3 solution silver is reduced and gets deposted on iron. This is the reason when Fe rod appears to be brightened.
Given a choice between two species that species with higher reduction potential reduces in preference to the other species.
Reduction potential of Ag+ /Ag is 0.79 V and that of Fe3+/Fe is -0.04 V.
