Anil says to Jacob, when i was of your age, i was twice as older as you. Then Jacob replied when i will be of your age then my age will be 3/4 if your age.Find the present ages of both.

Let the age of Anil be X and that of Jacob be Y.

 

According to the first statement,

 

X - (X - Y) = 2 * (Y - (X - Y))

 

=> Y = 2 * (2Y - X)

 

=> Y = 4Y - 2X

 

=> 2X = 3Y                               (1)

 

 

From second statement,

 

3/4 * (X + (X - Y)) = Y + (X - Y)

 

=> 3 * (2X - Y) = 4X

 

=> 6X - 3Y = 4X

 

=> 2X = 3Y                             (2)

 

Since 1 and 2 both are same, we have only 1 equation to solve 2 variables. Hence there can be infinite solutions satifying

 

2X = 3Y

 

For example, if Y = 2 then X = 3. (Verify that this solution satisfies the equation.)
