An example of refraction of light is " Sun is seen a few minutes before it rises above the horizon in the morning & in the evening few minutes longer after it sets" Please explain how this is because of refraction, I thought it is because of light ray takes 8 minutes to reach the earth & hence we see actually 8 minutes later than actual sun rise.

Expert Answer:
Actaully as the earth rotates, some of the light incident on the illuminated part of the earth on the boundary of the day-night boundary gets refracted by the earths atmposhere and we see the sun for a longer time even when it is not incident.
