Figure shows refraction of light ray in a prism made up of transparent material like glass .
A light ray incident at a point A on left side of prism, refrated along the line AB ,
incident on opposite side at B and emerging out of prism.
PAQ is normal , i.e perpendicular to left side face and passing through point A .
RBS is normal , i.e perpendicular to right side face and passing through point B .
Incident angle of light ray is i , i.e. angle between incident ray and normal PAQ .
Angle of refraction is r , i.e. angle between refracted ray and normal at A
Angle of incidence at right side face is r' , i.e angle between refratced ray and normal RBS.
Angle of emergence is e , i.e angle between emergent ray and normal RBS.
As shown in figure , if we extend incident ray and emergent ray inside the prism, we get angle of deviation d
Angle of deviation is angle between incident ray and emergent ray.
