Let x + 2y = u and 3x-2y = v

 So, the equations would become

1/2u+5/3v =17/42 and 4u- 3/5v=41/100

Taking LCM

3u + 10v = 17/7 and 20u - 3v = 41/20

Multiplying the first equation by 20 and second by 3

60u + 200v = 340/7 and 60u -9v = 123/20

now subtracting the 2 equations

200v - (-9v) = 340/7  - 123/20

209v = 42.42

v = 0.203

u = [17/7 - 10(0.203)]/3 = 0.133

Now, x + 2y = 0.133 and 3x-2y = 0.203

Adding the 2 equations

4x = 0.336

x = 0.084

and 2y = 0.133-0.084 = 0.049

y = 0.0245
