Why does the fluid present in a cylinder spinning with a constant rotational speed form a parabolic shape?

Expert Answer
A cylinder filled with fluid is spun with constant rotational speed.
So, there will be constant centrifugal force acting on the liquid and its molecules.
Due to this force, the molecules experience a push in the outward direction.
Now, the edges of surface of the cylinder prevents it from being thrown out, so the molecules at the edge tend to rise up.
The central molecules however, experience push from all directions and hence settle at their original positions.
In this way we can say that the liquid forms a parabolic shape.
