CBSE Class 12-science Answered

While charging a metalic sphere by induction,
while charging +vely, when grounded electrons flow from sphere to earth
but while charging the sphere -vely, electrons flow from earth to sphere. Why is this so?
Why won't +ve charges flow to ground? Is it because +ve charges don't flow?

answered-by-expert Expert Answer
- It is electrons which flow due to their light atomic weight when compared to the weight of proton.
- This is why the positive charges wont flow to the ground.
- Any material is negatively charged by giving in the flux of electrons but the process of charging the material positively is not done by supplying protons but by extracting electrons from it.
- So the positive or the negative charge can be done by supplying or extracting electrons.
