This seems to b a quadratic expression and not an equation as there is no '=' sign seen.

if your question is straight x squared plus straight x minus straight p left parenthesis straight p plus 1 right parenthesis equals 0

then,

find the roots using the formula

straight x equals plus-or-minus fraction numerator square root of straight b squared minus 4 ac end root over denominator 2 straight a end fraction

where a = coefficient of x^2

b =coefficient of x and 

c = constant term
