As we know the force between two charge body is inversely proportional to square if the distance between them 
So in this case when a positive charge is place on left of -q it will attract it toward it self and for the same charge +2q will repel it away but the distance is large so the force will be lower than apllied by -q but the charge is twice tha magnitude of a 
So it could both cancel out and unit positive charge will be in equilibrium.
