Let two charges 1 μC and 2 μC are placed at points A and B which are 1 m apart.

Let C be center between A and B . Let E1 be the electric field due to 1 μC charge at A and

E2 be the electric field due to 2 μC charge at B .

E1 and E2 are in opposite direction to each other as shown in figure.

Electric field E at a point P which is at a distance d from charge q  is

E = K × q/d2

where K = 1/(4πεo) = 9 × 109 N m2 C-2 is Coulomb's constant

E1 =  [ 9 × 109 × ( 1 × 10-6 ) ] / (0.5)2  N/C =  36 × 10N/C

E2 =  - [ 9 × 109 × ( 2 × 10-6 ) ] / (0.5)2  N/C =  -72 × 10N/C

Magnitude of net electric field = | E1 + E2 | = 3.6 × 104 N/C
