It is assumed that a point C(p,m) divides the line segment  joining the points A(2,3) and  B(6,3)
 
since y-coordinates of both A and B are same,  y-coordinate of C also same. Hence m =3
 
Let C divides the line AB in the ratio k:1,  then we have as per secion formula   6k+2/(k+1) = p ....(1)
 
Hence we get from (1), k = (p-2)/(6-p)
