Let the y-axis divides the line joining A(-3, -4) and B(1, -2) in the ratio k:1.

x-coordinate of point of division is zero because the point is in y-axis.

hence   [ k(1)-3 ]/ (k+1) = 0   or k = 3.

Hence y-axis divides the line joining the points A(-3, -4) and B(1, -2) in the ratio 3:1.
