Expert Answer
Let the centre of mass 'C' be at a distance x from 60 kg mass.
The distance of mass 40 kg is (5 - x)
Taking moments about C, we get
60x = (5 - x)40
60x = 200 - 40x
100x = 200
x = 2m
Thus they meet at the centre of mass i.e. at a distance of 2 m from mass 60 km and 3 m from 40 kg mass.
Note that the centre of mass is nearer to the heavier mass.
