Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme for CBSE Class 12 - 2020

1. CBSE Class 12 Science – Chemistry Paper Pattern and Marking Scheme

  • Your Chemistry exam paper will carry a total of 70 marks.
  • In your Chemistry paper, there will be 3 long answer (LA) questions of 15 marks each. There will be 9 short answer (SA-I) type questions of 3 marks each and 10 short answer (SA-II) questions of 2 marks each. Also, 8 very short answer (VSA) type questions of 1 mark each will be present.
  • Reasoning questions in your Chemistry paper will carry 6 marks. Word problems based on reactions and properties of functional groups will carry 5 marks. Questions based on the names of reactions, nomenclature, distinguishing between compounds and reaction mechanism will carry 2 marks each.
  • Numericals in Chemistry will carry a weightage of 8-10 marks.
  • As far as the difficulty level is concerned, you will have 70% of average questions, 15% of easy questions and 15% of difficult questions.

2.      CBSE Class 12 Science - Physics Paper Pattern and Marking Scheme

  • You can score a maximum of 70 marks in the 3-hour-long Physics paper.
  • As per the 2019-2020 question paper pattern, there will be 20 very short answer (VSA) questions of 1 mark each. You will have 7 short answer (SA) questions and 7 long answer (LA-I) questions of 2 marks and 3 marks, respectively. Also, 3 long answer (LA-II) questions of 5 marks each will also be a part of the Physics paper.
  • 33% of questions in the Physics exam paper will be application-based questions where you need to use facts, rules or techniques to solve problems. 30% of questions will be designed to assess your understanding of concepts from your syllabus. 20% of questions will involve performing analysis and evaluation of the given information to find answers. 12% of questions will test your remembering capabilities through VSA, SA and LA-I questions. Also, you will have 1 LA-I question of 3 marks (5%) that will check your creative skills in compiling information to propose alternative ideas or patterns.

 3. CBSE Class 12 Science -  Biology Paper Pattern and Marking Scheme

  • A total of 100 marks can be obtained in Class 12 Science Biology, of which 70 marks can be scored through the written exam. The Biology practical examination carries 30 marks.
  • Comprehension-based questions and application-based questions carry 30% marks each. Evaluation and analysis questions, creativity-based questions and knowledge-based questions carry 17%, 13% and 10% weightage, respectively.
  • A total of 27 questions are to be attempted to score 70 marks in your Biology paper. As per the question paper design, there will be 5 questions of 1 mark each and 7 questions of 2 marks each. Also, the question paper will have 12 questions of 3 marks each and 3 questions of 5 marks each.

 4. CBSE Class 12 -  Mathematics Paper Pattern

  • The Class 12 Maths paper carries a total of 80 marks. Students can score 20 marks through internal assessment.
  • The CBSE Class 12 Science – Maths question paper will have 20 very short answer objective-type questions of 1 mark each. There will be 6 questions of 2 marks each and 6 questions of 4 marks each. You will also have 4 long answer-type questions of 6 marks each.
  • 35% of the Maths paper will have questions to test the understanding of your syllabus topics. 25% will be application-based Maths problems. 20% of the Class 12 Maths paper will test whether you are able to remember the basic concepts and terms that you would have learned in your class. Questions to assess your evaluation skills, creative thinking abilities and analysing capabilities will form the remaining 20% of the paper.  5. CBSE Class 12 -  Economics Paper Pattern

  • The Class 12 Economics theory paper carries 80 marks from a total score of 100 marks. You can secure the remaining 20 marks through project work.
  • In the Economics paper, understanding-based questions and remembering-based questions have a weightage of 22 marks each. Application-based questions carry 18 marks. Also, analysis and evaluation-type questions have a weightage of 18 marks in the CBSE Class 12 Economics exam.
  • When you look at the typology of questions in the Economics paper, there are 34 questions of various types that add up to 80 marks. In the exam paper, 20 marks are allotted to 1 mark MCQ/objective-type questions. In addition, there are 4 short answer questions of 3 marks each and 6 short answer questions of 4 marks each. Also, 4 long answer questions of 6 marks each can be found in the exam paper.

While preparing for your exams, you can revise Part 1 first and then move on to Part 2 of Economics. Both Part 1 and Part 2 carry 40 marks each. Textbook solutions such as NCERT solutions for CBSE Class 12 can be used for revising the chapters as per their distribution of marks.

 

6. CBSE Class 12 -  Hindi Paper Pattern

The total marks for the Class 12 Hindi paper is 100. For practising Hindi questions as per the latest paper pattern, you can utilise sample papers and solutions for CBSE Class 12 Hindi.

7. CBSE Class 12 Commerce – Business Studies Paper Pattern

  • In CBSE Class 12 Business Studies, you can score 80 marks in the 3-hour-long theory paper and 20 marks through project work.
  • As part of the Business Studies paper, you will get 20 objective or MCQ-type questions of 1 mark each. Online practice tests can help you to improve your MCQ answering skills. Also, there would be 5 short answer questions of 3 marks each and 3 short answer questions of 4 marks each. Other than the short questions in the paper, you will find 3 long answer questions of 5 marks each and 3 long answer questions of 6 marks each.
  • As per the latest question paper design, 23 marks will be allotted for questions where you will be assessed for remembering concepts, terms and answers. 21 marks would be allotted for questions designed to test your understanding of ideas, facts, interpretations, comparisons etc. You will be able to secure 19 marks through application-based questions as well. Analysis and evaluation-oriented questions will cover the remaining 17 marks.

 8. CBSE Class 12 Commerce – Accountancy Paper Pattern

  • The CBSE Class 12 Accountancy theory paper will have 32 questions carrying a total of 80 marks.
  • You can score up to 20 marks in your Accountancy paper by correctly answering 20 MCQs or objective-type questions of 1 mark each. There will be 2 short answer questions of 3 marks each and 3 short answer questions of 4 marks each in the Accountancy theory exam. Also, you will find 5 long answer questions in the Accountancy paper. In addition, there will be 3 long answer questions of 6 marks each and 2 long answer questions of 8 marks each. You can practise Accountancy questions by solving sample papers and previous years’ question papers.
  • Remembering-based questions and understanding-based questions in the Class 12 Accountancy paper carry 18 marks and 26 marks, respectively. Application-oriented questions in Accountancy can get you up to 19 marks. Evaluation and analysis-type questions have been allotted 17 marks in the Accountancy paper.
