ShareEvery year, the CBSE Class 10 exams are held in February and March. The results are expected to arrive in May. You need to know the marking scheme and exam pattern to plan your scoring strategy for making it to the rank list in these crucial board exams. To make it easier for you to create your study plans and scoring strategy during the exams, we have compiled the details of the marking scheme and question paper pattern as per the latest 2019-20 exam guidelines by CBSE.
1. CBSE Class 10 Science Paper Pattern
- A total of 100 marks is allotted for the CBSE Class 10 Science exam including internal assessment. The theory exam paper consists of 36 questions with a maximum of 80 marks. Internal assessment for Science carries 20 marks.
- In the Science paper, you will have 20 objective-type questions of 1 mark each. Also, 10 short questions will be present for 3 marks each. The remaining 30 marks can be scored by attempting 6 long answer questions of 5 marks each.
- As per the typology of questions in the latest question paper pattern for CBSE Class 10 Science, there will be 22.5% memory-based questions, 25% understanding-based questions, 21.25% application-based questions, 20% analysis-oriented questions and 11.25% creative thinking-type questions.

2. CBSE Class 10 Mathematics Paper Pattern
- The CBSE Class 10 Maths question paper comprises 40 questions which are split into Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D. Section A consists of 20 questions (1 mark each) and Section B consists of 6 questions (2 marks each). There will be 8 questions (3 marks each) in Section C and 6 questions (4 marks each) in Section D.
- 25% weightage will be given to questions where your remembering abilities will be tested. 29% of questions will aim to evaluate your understanding of Mathematical concepts as per your latest CBSE Class 10 syllabus. 24% of questions will be application-based and 22% of questions will be analysis-based.

3. CBSE Class 10 Hindi Paper Pattern
The Hindi exam paper carries 80 marks and consists of questions based on poems, prose and grammar lessons covered in the latest Hindi syllabus. You can find the marking scheme and question types for Hindi in the 2019-20 syllabus.
4. CBSE Class 10 English Paper Pattern
- As per the CBSE exam guidelines, 20 marks are allotted for Section 1, i.e. reading skills. You can get up to 30 marks each by correctly answering questions from Section 2 and Section 3.
- To test your reading skills, the English paper will have 4 MCQs and 8 objective-type questions of 1 mark each. The remaining 4 marks can be secured by accurately answering 2 short answer questions of 2 marks each.
- For evaluation of your writing skills with grammar in Section 2, you will have to attempt 12 objective-type questions of 1 mark each. You will also get 1 long answer question of 8 marks and 1 very long answer question of 10 marks.
- Section 3, i.e. Literature Textbooks and Supplementary Reading Text, consists of 4 objective-type questions (1 mark each), 5 short answer questions (2 marks each) and 2 long answer questions (8 marks each).

5. CBSE Class 10 Social Studies Paper Pattern
- Social Studies is divided into the subjects of History, Civics, Geography and Economics. So, your CBSE Class 10 Social Studies paper is divided into 4 parts of 20 marks each.
- In the Social Studies paper, you can score up to 23 marks for memory-based questions, while 20 marks can be secured through the understanding-based questions. Successfully attempting application-based questions can get you 16 marks. In addition, analysis and evaluation questions carry 10 marks. For creative skills and map skills, you can get 5 marks and 6 marks, respectively.
- You can easily score 20 marks in your exam through the 20 objective questions that carry 1 mark each. In correctly answering the 8 short answer questions in the paper, you can easily fetch 3 marks for each. Also, there are 6 long answer questions in the Class 10 Social Studies paper that carry 5 marks each.
