Let m be a mass of object which is at earth surface .
Gravitational force of attraction F between earth and this object is given as
![begin mathsize 14px style F space equals space G space fraction numerator M cross times m over denominator R squared end fraction end style](https://images.topperlearning.com/topper/tinymce/cache/5b2839fb1ed73ca715db66853b82ab43.png)
where G = 6.674 × 10-11 N m2 kg-2 is universal gravitational constant , M = 5.972 × 1024 kg is mass of earth
and R = 6371 km is radius of earth .
acceleration due to gravity g = Force / mass = F/ m = G ( M / R2 )
acceleration due to gravity g = ( 6.674 × 10-11 × 5.972 × 1024 ) / ( 6.371 × 6.371 × 1012 ) = 9.819 m/s2
