simple harmonic wave in stretched string fixed at both ends

No, but one half the wavelength is eqaul to the string length.
If we pluck the string fixed at both ends, in the middle, the middle point on string undergoes highest displacement. And we have half a wave, hence λ/2 = L, λ = 2L.
