Let an object of mass m is on the inclined plane.Now if we go on increasing the inclination of the plane, at a certain maximum angle the object just starts sliding, that angle is called angle of repose.

so at this position the downward force on the object through the plane exactly balances with the frictional forceupward.

  • ?s is the coefficient of static friction
  • ? is the angle of repose
