Magnitude of an average velocity is equal to its average speed if the paticle when magnitude of displacement is equal to distance travelled by particle. This is possible when a particle travels in a straight line wiithout changing its direction. For examplle if a particle starts moving from origin towards + x axis, then it should not reverse its velocity to go back in -x axis directio. It must keep tavelling in a specific direction along x axis.
