Explain how a dielectric reduces the electric field between two oppositely charged plates, if the space between them be filled with it?

As the non-polar dielectric slab is introduced between two oppositely charged plates, each molecule of the non-polar dielectric slab gets polarized. Due to polarization a field is set up on the surface of the dielectric slab. The direction of this electric field is opposite to that of produced by two oppositely charged plates. Hence on placing a dielectric slab inside as electric field, the strength of the electric field gets reduces because of two opposing electric fields.
