a wooden cube floating on water supports a mass m=0.2kg on its top.when the mass is removed,the cube rises by 2cm.what is the volume of wooden cube and its each side?

Dear Student,
The buoyancy force equal to the weight removed springs into action as soon as the mass of 0.2 kg removed.
Buoyancy force = mg = 0.2 kg x 10 m/s2 = 2 N
But this is also given by the weight of water displaced, = Volume displaced x Density x Accln due to gravity.
= 0.02 m x l2 m2 x 1000 kg/m3 x 10 m/s2 = 200l2 N       .. where l is side of the cube.
Equating this to 2N.
200l2 = 2 N
l = 10 cm. and V = volume = 1000 cm3.
