Hi Lochan, If a person has Rs. 360 for expenses on tour. Let the original duration of tour be n days. Let his original daily expenditure be Rs.x Amount no. of days daily exp. For original duration Rs 360 n x ....(1) If tour extends by 4 days Rs 360 n + 4 x - 3 ....(2) From (1) and (2) we get nx = 360, x = 360/n ....(3) and (n + 4) (x - 3) = 360 Therefore nx = (n + 4) (x - 3) nx = nx + 4x - 3n - 12 Therefore 4x - 3n = 12 ...... (4) on substituting x = 360/n ....(3) in (4) 4 (360/n) - 3n = 12 1440/n - 3n = 12 ( dividing every term by 3) 480 - n^2 - 4n = 0 n^2 + 4n - 480 = 0, Therefore, (n + 24) ( n - 20) = 0 n = -24 or n = 20 ( number of days can't be negative) The original duration of tour = 20 days
