Hi Amit,

Any physical or a chemical change does not alter the rate of decay of a radioactive substance. So, it is clear that the phenomenon of radioactivity cannot be due to orbital electrons. Thus, radioactivity should be a nuclear phenomenon. It is the process of spontaneous emission of alpha, beta or gamma radiations from the nuclei of an atom.
