Expert Answer
The role of root hairs played in absorption of water is as follows:
1. Root hairs increase the surface area of roots enormously which increase the absorption of water.
2. Root hairs contain cell sap of a higher concentration than that of the surrounding water thus it sets off osmosis and helps in water absorption.
3. Root hairs have thin, permeable cell wall which allow movement of water molecules and dissolved substance freely in and out of the cell.
4. Roots cells have thin and semi-permeable membrane which allows water molecules to pass through the cell.
