The length of a ladder is exactly equal to the height of the wall it is leaning against. The lower end of the ladder is kept on a stool of height 3 m and the stool is kept 9 m away from the wall, the upper end of the ladder coincides with the top of the wall. Then, the height of the wall is:

Figure shows the arrangment of ladder placed on a stool and leaning against the wall.
AD is ladder and let h be its length. CD is the stool and AB is height of wall.
From figure, we write (h-3)2 + 92 = h2 .................(1)
h2 + 9 -6h +81 = h2 or 6h = 90 or h = 15 m
Hence height of the wall = 15 m
