Figure shows tangents drawn from P to circle at A and B so that begin mathsize 12px style angle end styleAPB = 120°. Hence begin mathsize 12px style angle end styleAPO = begin mathsize 12px style angle end styleBPO = 60°
we have ,  OA/AP = tan60 = √3 .  i.e., OA = √3 AP  
 
Hence OP = begin mathsize 12px style square root of open parentheses square root of 3 A P close parentheses squared plus A P squared space end root space equals space 2 space A P end style
