The chapter 'Machines' for ICSE Class X is included in the syllabus so that you can understand:
- Functions and use of simple machines
- Effort
- Load
- Mechanical Advantage (MA)
- Velocity Ratio (VR)
- Input/Output and Efficiency
- Inter relationships of all the above mentioned Physical Quantities
- Lever and its types along with the levers found in the Human Body
- Pulley System, its MA, VR and efficiency
 
However, all these concepts are inter-related with each other and in order to understand any subsequent concept, 
you need to be very clear with the concept preceding it.
Thus, I suggest you to start with the page 1 of this chapter, read and learn, understand and practice untill you can write down the
answers, theory and solve the numericals on your own.
