Vertical displacement y(t) = 10 t - t2 ..................(1)
 
Vertical velocity , dy/dt = 10 - ( 2 t )
 
when the ball reaches maximum height , vertical velocity is zero
 
Hence time taken by the ball to reach maximum height is determined as follows
 
dy/dt = 10 - ( 2 tmax ) = 0
 
from above expression, we get time taken tmax to reach maximum height is determined as
 
tmax = 5 s
 
Vertical displacement at t = 5 s is calculated from eqn.91)
 
  y(5) = (10×5) - ( 5 × 5 ) = 25 m
 
maximum height attained by ball = 25 m
