difference between the emf of the cell and terminal voltage  of the cell

EMF ( electromotive force) is the characterstic and constant of the cell.
When we mearure the potential difference across terminals of cell if any resistance or any current drawing device is not connected,
then the potential difference we measure is EMF of the cell.

when current is drawn from the cell, some potential drop occurs across the internal resistance of cell .
Hence when the cell is supplying current to circuit or device, if we measure the potential diffrence across cell,
then we get the potenital difference less than its actual EMF, because potential drop across the internal resistance is
getting subtracted from the EMF of cell. The potential difference we measure across the terminals of cell,
when the cell is supplying current to some circuit or device is the terminal voltage.

If E is EMF , i is the current drawn by a circuit or device and r is internal resistance,
then terminal voltage V is given by,  V = E - (i×r)
