Why is the bleaching action of Cl2 permanent whereas that of SO2 temporary?

Bleaching action of Cl2 is due to nascent O while SO2 is nascent H so if the bleached article by SO2 exposed to air the reverse process takes place so ,bleaching bySO2 is temporary.
