Primary succession is the succession in a totally barren area with no record of earlier vegetation. Plains consist of relatively flat and featureless coastal belts which show vegetation in the form of tall grasses and bushes. Slope areas cannot hold water and show no traces of earlier vegetation. Hence, primary succession occurs rapidly on slopes than in plains or dunes. Hence, the thickness of organic layer is more in slopes than in plains or dunes.
