which instrument is used to measure potential difference? does potential difference depends on batteryin the circuit? how? please give detail explanation

The potential difference between two points in an electric circuit is measured by a 'Voltmeter' which is connected across those points in parallel with the circuit.

Battery is the source which provides potential difference in a circuit.
