Starch is an example of a complex carbohydrate. All the complex carbohydrates are finally converted into simple sugars in the small intestine. The amylase is digested by salivary and pancreatic amylase and converted into maltose. In small intestine, this maltose is converted by maltase enzyme into glucose.
