actually there are no such shortcut formulas.
there are only three equations from which you have to work out the formulas yourself in each situation.
One piece of advice can be always tabulate what you know in the given question with the notations you are comfortable with and then write down the quantities you have to find out.
Then write down the three equations of motion and see which of the deal with the unknowns.
