(1) To get an effective resistance of 9 ohm, a combination two 6 ohm resistors in parallel must be connected in series with the third 6 ohm resistor.

(2) To get an effective resistance of 4 ohm , a combination of two 6 ohm resistors in series must be connected in parallel with the third 6 ohm resistor.
