Stomata allow gaseous exchange to occur during photosynthesis and respiration. In addition, transpiration also occurs through stomata. So if stomata are blocked, photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration will not occur. Photosynthesis is needed to prepare the food for plants. Respiration is essential to release the energy stored in food, so that the various life processes can be carried out. Transpiration helps xylem conduct water and dissolved mineral salts. This explains why the plant will not remain heathy for long if its stomata are blocked.
