The length of the small intestine differs because of differences of food habits of different animals. Herbivores eating grass need a longer small intestine to allow the cellulose to be digested. Meat is easier to digest, hence carnivores like tiger and lion have a shorter small intestine. So the length of the small intestine depends upon the food eaten by the animals
