Let m be the mass and g is acceleration due to gravity
hence weight mg is acting downwards and tension force in the connecting string with spring balance acting upwards.
Net force acting on the mass is (T - mg ) .
From Newton's second law , net force = mass × acceleration
since mass is subjected to acceleration g due to acceleration of lift , then we get
T - mg = m a
T = m ( g + a )
Hence the reading of spring balance is related to T = m(g+a)
