Forces acting on the blocks are shown in figure .
Applied force F equals Tension T in top string , i.e., T = F
If we apply Newton's second law to the 2 kg block
T - T ' - 2 g = 2 × 2 = 4 ........................... (1)
If we apply Newton's second law to the 4 kg block
T ' - 4 g = 4 × 2 = 8 .........................(2)
By adding eqn.(1) and (2) , we get
T - 6 g = 12 or T = 12 + ( 6 × 9.8 ) = 70.8 N
From eqn.(1) , T ' = T - 2g - 4 = 70.8 - 19.6 - 4 = 47.2 N
