Electric field lines:
  1. Electric lines of force originate from a positive charge at one end and terminate on a negative charge at the other end.
  2. They are discontinuous curves.
  3. The tangent to the electric field lines gives the direction of the electric intensity at that point.
  4. No electric field lines will pass through a conductor.
  5. The electric lines of force originate or terminate at a surface at right angles to the surface.

Magnetic field lines:

  1. In case of magnetic lines of force ,the lines of force start from the north pole reach the south pole then passes through the body of the magnet and returns to the north pole.
  2. Magnetic lines of force forms a closed loop. It is a continuous curve.
  3. The tangent to the magnetic field lines at any point gives the direction of the magnetic field at that point.
  4. Magnetic field lines go from South Pole to North Pole internally.
  5. In a uniform magnetic field, the lines are parallel and equidistant from each other. The lines of force are crowded near the poles as the field is strong and are widely separated where the field is weak.
