Complete digestion of fats, proteins and carbohydrates occurs in small intestine. The food coming from stoamch is made alkaline in the small intestine fro the pancreatic enzymes to act. Emulsification of fats is also carried out in the small intestine by the bile juice. The intestinal glands secrete intestinal juice which converts fats into fatty acids and glycerol, proteins into amino acids and carbohydrates into glucose.
The inner lining of the intestinal walls also show numerous villi to increase the surface area for absorption. The blood vessels of the villi carry the absorbed food to different parts of the body for assimilation.
