Explain how water and carbon tetrachloride are separated????

The mixture of water and carbon tetrachloride is separated by using separating funnel.
In separating funnel water forms upper layer and carbon tetrachloride forms lower layer.
 
Carbon tetrachloride can be removed first and then water is collected in separate container.
