Equation for equivalent resistance

Expert Answer
Let two resistors R1 and R2 be connected in a circuit with voltage V and current flowing I.
Now, according to the ohms law, the voltage drop across resistor R1 = IR1 and the voltage drop across the second resistor = IR2
Now, since, the total voltage drop in the circuit = V
Hence, V = IR1 + IR2
Also, lets consider the equivalent resistance in the circuit to be equal to R
Hence, V = IR
SO, IR = IR1 + IR2
R = R1 + R2
