clotting of blood
Asked by sahil.95rana | 7th Jul, 2010, 06:56: AM
Three major steps of blood clotting are-
1. Blood platelets disintegrate and release platelet factor- 3 and thromboplastin. These two factors combine with calcium ions to form prothrombinase.
2. The prothrombinase inactivates heparin (anti-coagulant), and helps prothrombin to break down into thrombin and small peptide fragments.
3. Thrombin depolymerizes fibrinogen and forms fibrin. This fibrin forms a dense network with blood cells and platelets and a clot is produced.
