Blood is a specialized connective tissue, composed of a liquid portion called plasma  and cells called corpuscles suspended in the plasma. The cells are red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), and platelets. Blood is red in color in humans and is pumped through the body by the heart.

Its main function is transportation. Blood helps to carry nutrients, respiratory gases, waste materials, enzymes, hormones etc. to different parts of the body.

The WBCs in blood help to protect our body from diseases and foreign particles.

The platelets and fibrinogen in plasma helps in blood clotting.
