An electric dipole with dipole moment 4×10-9cm is aligned at 30° with the direction of a uniform electric field of magnitude 5×104N/C. Calculate the magnitude of torque acting on the dipole?

Torque τ acting on dipole p in electric field of intensity E is given as ,
 
where θ is angle between directions of dipole moment and  electric field .
 
τ = 4 × 10-9 × 5 × 104 × 0.5 = 10-4 N m
