a cricket ball of mass 150 gram moving at a speed of 25 ms-¹ brought to rest by a player in 0.03 seconds . Find the average force applied by the player.

Force = Rate of change of Momentum
 
Change in momentum = final momentum - initial momentum = m ( vf - vi )
 
where m = 150 g is mass of ball , vf is final speed and vi is initial speed 
 
Change in momentum = 0.150 × ( 25 - 0 ) = 3.75 kg m/s
 
Rate of change of momentum = change in momentum / time = 3.75 / 0.03 = 125 N
 
Force applied to stop the ball = 125 N
